What Does Virtual Therapy Really Look Like?

Many people wonder what to expect when starting virtual therapy. Is it cold or impersonal? Will it feel awkward? At Restoring Vida Therapy, we believe virtual therapy can be just as warm, personal, and effective as in-person care, and we want to show you what that actually looks like.
Behind The Screen:
A Peek Into Saul's Set-up
Saul is one of our therapists here at Restoring Vida Therapy. He’s intentionally created a space that feels inviting, without being overwhelming. Behind him, clients might spot his peaceful fish tank, and if you're lucky, you’ll catch a glimpse of his clownfish swimming by. On the other side, a wooden carving of his favorite MLS team, LA Galaxy, adds a personal (but subtle) touch.
Natural light pours in through his window, brightening the space and helping sessions feel more open and grounded. Depending on the day, you might see Saul using either a headset or earbuds, each carefully chosen to ensure clear sound so you can hear and connect without distraction. He also uses a high-quality camera so his face is sharp and in focus, helping virtual therapy feel more personal.

What Virtual Sessions are Like
There are a few simple stages to every virtual session, just like an in-person appointment, it starts with clear instructions and support to help you connect with your therapist.
Before the Session
Before your session begins, you’ll receive an email with everything you need to get started, including access to your client portal. We use SimplePractice, a secure and easy-to-use platform, to host our virtual sessions.
If it’s your first time, your therapist or someone from our admin team will walk you through the setup process and be available to answer any questions. We’re here to make sure everything goes smoothly so you can focus on what matters: feeling supported and seen.
During the Session
During your session, you’ll meet with your therapist face-to-face (through the screen) in real time. We use SimplePractice, a HIPAA-compliant platform, so you can feel confident that your conversations and personal information are protected.
You’ll talk with your therapist, explore what’s been going on, and receive tools and support tailored to your needs, all from a space that’s comfortable and familiar to you.
Your Environment Matters Too
Your therapist will always be in a private, quiet space, and it’s important that you are too.
We recommend finding a spot where you can speak freely, without others nearby who might overhear. This could be a bedroom, a home office, or even your car if that’s the quietest option. Using headphones can also help you feel more focused and protect your privacy.
It’s a good idea to keep some water nearby, and maybe a journal or notepad to jot things down if something resonates. The more comfortable and focused you are, the more meaningful your session can be.
The Benefits of Virtual Therapy
Virtual therapy is a great fit for many people.
It is accessible for busy parents, students, and professionals.
It is flexible and convenient - No Traffic!
It is just as effective as in-person sessions for many mental health needs.
You can be in a safe space that is comfortable for you, not someone's office.
Virtual therapy may feel new or uncertain at first, but it can be a deeply personal, empowering experience. At Restoring Vida we are here to walk with you every step of the way, wherever you are.
